He completed his undergraduate studies at İstanbul University State Conservatory as a Double bass major and later got his MA degree from the “Tambour” department of Haliç University Turkish Music Conservatory.

He collaborated with many other musicians both in his homeland and abroad. He performed in various festivals and gave many concerts. Volkan Hürsever joined Ricky Ford´s-composer and saxophone player- Jazz Collective Project. After sharing the stage with Roy Haynes, Kenny Garret, Nicholas Payton and Dave Kikovski as part of Roy Haynes project entitled "Birds of a Feather"; Volkan Hürsever joined the band´s European tour.

He taught bass at the Music Performance Department of Bilgi University until the department was closed down. He played together with almost all Turkish jazz musicians. He worked with the world´s most renowned musicians among which are Alan Harris, Laverne Buttler, Marion Cowings, Billy James, Harvey Thompson, and Clifford Jarvis for quite a while. In 2009 he joined the “İncesaz”, a renowned Turkish folk band originally founded by Cengiz Onural, Murat Aydemir and Derya Türkan. Hürsever has played in countless recordings of classical Turkish music and ethnic music albums. He finished the recording of his own album entitled “Hediye” in March 2009. The album was released by A.K. Music Corporation in October, the same year.

Besides playing in various jazz , Ottoman – Turkish Music projects and recordings, he is pursuing doctoral degree at Haliç University. As an educator, Volkan Hürsever is teaching Kontrbass, Jazz Ensemble and Groove Writing classes at Modern Music Academy in İstanbul.
